I first encountered dot painting during my travels throughout outback Queensland and the Northern Territory, Australia. Then, living and working with the Jinjilly people in Australia's Northern Territory in the early 1990's, I was introduced and guided in the exploration and creation of traditional artworks, using natural mediums such as ochres, river clays, and local plant dyes. Since then as I have travelled throughout Australia, I have continued to admire Indigenous artwork, especially dot painting.
Although I am inspired by natural earthy colours and our Australian landscape, I have always found energy in vibrant colours, and now create dot paintings using mainly acrylics on canvas. Occasionally reverting back to natural earthly tones, depending on what inspires my senses at the time. The colours I use depict my perception of the world as I see it.
